Mom's turn: Made it!

Day2 We had another looooooooong drive with more sleeping in the back. This time we made it out of Texas and through New Mexico. We saw an amusing sight – a giant road runner! We tried to explain what this was to Mao using the example of Wiley Coyote chasing a road runner…but she didn’t quite understand. There were some beautiful purple bushes and lots of what we think were walnut orchards along the way and we discovered just how frightening bathroom breaks could be as well!
YES - on the phone...even in the bathroom!!!!!!
Also, we saw the Rio Grande River and Mexico right past it. The thought tickled our brains that we could hop over and visit, but then we realized we would be in Juarez and what perfectly bad timing that would be! Then we passed through an inspection station where two cars in front of us were detained, presumably for drug inspections – oh my. I’m grateful to say we sailed right through. Once we passed into Arizona it got windier and we spotted several dust devils. We stopped at a quaint little coffee shop for a break and I discovered a pair of western kingbirds flittering about. Of course I had to race to get the camera…and I swear they actually posed for me! Too bad I don’t have that super fabulous telephoto lens so I could have gotten a better shot. And a few shots of the scenery:

We stopped in Phoenix, AZ for the night and tried to meet Kelley for dinner, but she wasn’t able to come see us. We ate dinner at a lovely little Greek restaurant, Greek Town. The owner was fabulous, but we still enjoy our favorite spot in Louisiana, La Shish. We turned in for yet another early start on the road tomorrow morning!
