Mom's turn: Arizona in detail

Day 3 We woke to beautiful weather and blue skies. Travis had plans for a 4 mile hiking trip on the North Mountain. We took the dogs so they could stretch their legs, too. It was a bit challenging, but we saw lots of native wildlife:
House finch
Anna’s humming bird
Gambel’s quail
Cactus wren
Rock squirrel
Whip tail lizard
Ornate tree lizard
along with tons of various cacti.

Afterwards we came back to the hotel where the girls swam and we rested. Our evening plans were a trip to Sedona via the scenic mountain way. We passed a quaint little mountain town on the way, Jerome, where we stopped to take a peek at a few of their shops.

old copper mine - Jerome was once known as the wickedest town in the west.

My favorite was a kaleidoscope shop called Nellie Bly; they are like laser lights for your eyes. We made it to Sedona in time to see the vibrant sunset on their infamous Red Rocks and then we went shopping and finally had dinner at the Cowboy Club. Travis remembered their elk tenderloin from his visit last year, but this time, unfortunately, we were not impressed. The food was pricey and not very tasty. We headed home and went to sleep to get ready for the drive tomorrow.
