Mom's turn: And he irons, too!!!

We finally have finished bedrooms – it only took a year, but I think the wait was definitely worth it! Teeny stuck to her favorite colors, purple, blue & green theme, but updated the look with lots of details. The differences between Wal-Mart brand and department store is so much more than just the price…we have DETAILS:

feeling like a princess

Samson approves

pillows made by Teeny - amazing...a perfect match!

Loving the attention to details and craftmanship this company has:

great beads

organza flower tie-back that I found

SPARKLES...not sure who was more excited, me or Teeny :-D

and piping - so THAT'S what it's supposed to look like :-/

We also got daddy to hang a couple of pictures and a shelf, wahoooo! Now she’s just waiting on mom to find time to make her curtains :-/

We had her drawing framed with a purple mat of course...then Daddy's arwork is on the nightstand. WOW - a nightstand...who knew that was under all of the junk :-D

Travis and I went a little more traditional with gold and purple (uh, NO – not in honor of LSU even though we are tiger fans). I ordered everything before I went to Colorado and my hubby surprised me by ironing
wow - he needs to be house-dad...I didn't even know we OWNED an iron!!!

AND hanging all of the curtains. HE ROCKS!!!!!! Now we have lined curtains and the neighbor’s flood light no longer shines through the paper blinds we had hanging at 1am to wake us up…hmmm, perhaps that’s why he was so eager to get them up :-/

SWEET, matching tie-backs...don't look too close then you might see the paper blinds still hanging :-P

side note...I also sweet-talked him into hanging my "ladies" in the bedroom. What a perfect match!

whew...now we can rest in style!

Mom's turn: Technology blues

Hmmmm – I may have bit off more than I can chew. I needed a new phone…my primary concern was that it had my GPS availability in it. I purchased the AT&T Tilt. I can barely make a phone call on this “smart phone” because it’s so bloody complicated!!!!!!!!! Same goes for Christina – her need was not GPS compatibility (although she got that by default); she wanted texting, internet, and personalization…what teenager doesn’t. She purchased the Palm Centro, another “smart phone” – personally I think that’s an oxymoron! She’s having troubles of her own as well. This is going to take some serious getting used to along with another trip back to the store!!!!!

Mom's turn: Finishing Touches

Okay – we got Christina’s mango wood bench in and her loft came together fantastically. Most of the authentic decorations have come from grandma, who has been great at helping even though she lives in Eureka Springs, AR and has never seen the room before. She has a knack for “finding just the right thing” and saving it for you. Lots of hand made details were added to help it look finished, but it takes some help to find them.
A resting place for all fo the stuffed animals...including several Neopets hiding in there.

What kid's room/area is complete without the obligatory poster...

in Japanese, of course.

With hand-dipped, gold pins

ooops - looks like they weren't "done"...I spy a fingerprint

And the Japanese bamboo shade along with

authentic Japanese calligraphy done on rice paper that I purchased in Colorado last year. And a painting...

done by yours truly...
I have no idea what I wrote - I simply picked two katakana characters that I thought looked pretty :-D And some kanji characters done by her friend.
love, happiness, and peace...perhaps not in that order, I can't tell

A nice wood table to hold the red paper lamp, another treat from Colorado, the essential radio, and Japanese vase. Under which hides her beading supplies and another vase from grandma...
with a treasure inside.

a graphite sculpture so she can sign her art work with a "work of art"...again, from Colorado. They have a bunch of neat stuff there!! :-D

And the first pillow I attempted to make...

uh...how many more of these did I say we were going to do??

And finally, THE BENCH...
how perfect is that with grandma's lamp, red vase, and lamb skin rug to lay on!?!?!

along with the gold & black fringed lamp shade I made.

Now - a few more decorations need to find a home...another shelf perhaps?

VOILA!

Mom's turn: Just THE SPOT

I’m so excited…I finally got my elephant painting framed and hung!!! It has the honor wall in our house – where someone will see it as soon as they walk in the door!

Mom's turn: Miami Beach memories

South Beach Miami has the bluest skies, most colorful tree lined streets, clearest water, softest sand, best shopping, and greatest Cuban food in America (which is not surprising since about 700,000 Cubans call Miami home)!!! We were fortunate enough to be able to pick up a business contract in Miami Beach so we went down there looking for housing. No luck there yet, but we did enjoy some much needed family time and moments of relaxation!! We stayed at the Chesterfield hotel right in the middle of the shopping district and only a block off of the beach. It was a beautifully decorated hotel in the 20’s Art Deco fashion with Japanese style floating furniture. Christina was a little uneasy with the elevator because you had to manually open and close the outside door and it frequently stopped below floor level, so we ended up taking the three flights of stairs every time we left and came back to the room. We spent most of our time on the beach and little time shopping this time.

MOM...enough pictures, I'm ready for the sand

that is REALLY cold when you first get in

giggles in the waves

We ended up extremely red in our un-tanned skins! It’s hard to prepare for the intense sun with even the strongest of sunscreen, but thankfully we had a fabulously colorful umbrella that made sitting out and enjoying the breeze on the beach very enjoyable.
Travis' turn to relax - wait, is that a WORK BOOK!!!!
We drove further south about 10 miles to Key Biscayne so the dogs could enjoy running on the beach too. Samson loves the water and chasing floating objects that pass by him in the waves.

We were all ready to head home and get out of the sun by Friday, though. And with an incredibly fresh and productive garden waiting for us, hopefully I can loose the 2 ½ pounds I found on the beach!!!
